hard to say anon because i only did it as a minor ): i guess you could look at it as a waste? because my current job doesn't require any knowledge of it. but i did learn a lot, and it made me look at music in a much more technical light which made me appreciate it more, plus idt any knowledge is a waste. ofc i'm aware i'm coming from a privileged position where i'm actually able to afford to pursue something in the arts w/o having to think about income too highly
i think if you really want to do music, it'd probably be best to do it in a conservatory? unless you want to do something more technical like audio engineering. but otherwise, i'd say going to an actual conservatory is a better option if you're hardcore about it -- most of my musically inclined friends ended up going there
